Trauma therapy to feel safe in your own body again
The ways your mind protected you once made sense. Maybe you learned to stay quiet, stay busy, or stay on guard. Years later, those same habits can leave you anxious, numb or snapping at people you love. Together we find what helps you now.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- You can’t remember big parts of your childhood.
- Your shoulders or chest tighten when someone raises their voice.
- You keep ending up in the same kind of relationship.
- You feel like you’re overreacting, but you can’t stop.
- You want to parent differently than you were parented.
What is complex trauma?
Complex trauma comes from harm that happened over and over, often in childhood or in a long relationship, rather than one single event. It can show up as anxiety, numbness, trouble trusting people, a harsh inner critic, or feeling on guard all the time. It’s common, and it can heal.
Your body often remembers before your mind does. A tight chest or clenched jaw can be an old feeling coming back. Noticing that is where change starts.
How we work, at your pace
If something feels like too much, too soon, we slow down. That isn’t resistance. It’s you telling me what you need.
Skills for big emotions (DBT)
Calm your body when old feelings flood in.
Untangling thought patterns (CBT)
So old beliefs stop running the show.
Healing the hurt parts of you (IFS)
So the parts that protected you can finally rest.
Living by your values (ACT)
So you build a life that feels like yours.
Breaking the pattern for your family
Most of what we believe about trust and love is learned when we’re very young, long before we’re ready to handle it. When someone tells me, “I had a hard childhood, but I don’t want to repeat it with my kids,” that’s some of my favorite work. What happened to you can stop with you.
Questions about trauma therapy
Do I need to remember everything to heal?
No. It’s common not to remember parts of a painful childhood. That’s your mind protecting you. Healing doesn’t depend on recovering every memory. We work with what you notice now, at a pace that feels safe.
How does trauma therapy work online?
Sessions happen by secure video from a private space you choose. Many people find it easier to open up from home. We build calming skills early, so you have tools before we go deeper.
What is generational trauma?
Generational trauma is when patterns from painful experiences, like neglect, abuse or addiction, get passed down in a family. Parents often do their best with what they learned. Therapy helps you see the pattern clearly so you can choose something different.
Is trauma therapy covered by insurance?
Usually, yes. Denise accepts Michigan Medicaid and most major plans. See fees and insurance.
